Huuhanmäki Observatory - Huuhanmäen tähtitornilla

A visit to Huuhanmäki on 16th of March provided us with sunny winter weather -an excellent day for taking pictures. Up the hill there is an observatory and two water reserves. Despite the windiness (Huuhanmäki really is a level up to the surroundings, and you can very well see the other big hill in Kuopio, Puijonmäki) we managed to get some descriptive sounds to create an atmosphere of this place.

Kävelyretki Huuhanmäelle 16. päivänä maaliskuuta sujui suotuisan kuvaussään merkeissä. Näkymä oli kirkas ja selkeä Puijonmäelle asti. Huuhalla on tähtitornin lisäksi kaksi ylävesisäiliötä, näistä lisää tuonnempana. Tuulisen puoleisista olosuhteista huolimatta onnistuimme pyydystämään myös alueelle ominaista äänimaisemaa.

Huuhanmäki Observatory was built in 1963-64 on top of an old water reserve. An astronomical association named Saturnus arranges open to public -nights, and for the viewing of interstellar happenings there are three separate telescopes.

Huuhanmäen tähtitorni rakennettiin vuosina 1963-64 vanhan ylävesisäiliön päälle. Saturnus-yhdistys järjestää yleisölle avoimia tähtitieteellisiä tapahtumia , joissa taivaan tiirailuun on käytettävissä kolme erillistä kaukoputkea.

The newer water reserve.

There are two water reserves altogether on the hill, of which the older (now beneath the observatory) has been built in 1913 and the newer one in 1970. Both are still operational.

Huuhanmäellä on toinenkin, uudempi ylävesisäiliö joka rakennettiin vuonna 1970, yli viisikymmentä vuotta myöhemmin kuin nykyään tornin alle jäänyt, vuonna 1913 rakennettu vanhempi säiliö -ja molemmat ovat yhä toiminnassa.

We also recorded our disciplined exit from the hill, with the combat boots of the photographer Observer making quite a nasty sound on the snow.
